ポートスティーブンスは、オーストラリア全土でとは言わずとも、ニューサウスウェールズで最も美しいエリアといえるでしょう。整然とした村に取り囲まれ、ニューキャッスルから北へ車で約1時間、保護された湾が連なるこのエリアでは、風光明媚な海岸が100キロ以上にわたって延びています。ポートスティーブンスは、とにかく景観の見事な地区です。
広大な自然のハーバーのあるポートスティーブンスは、シドニーやニューキャッスル、ニューサウスウェールズ州に住む人々にとって理想的な休暇先です。火山による盆地に、生物の多種多様性、壮観な景色、誰にも汚されていない海岸線を求めて、沢山の人々が遠方からやってきます。最近作られたポートスティーブンス・グレートレイクス・マリンパーク（Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park）により、その美しい自然はそのまま状態を保つことが出来そうです。広さ 980平方メートルのこのパーク内ではザトウクジラ（humpback whales）やテンジクザメ（nurse sharks）、イルカ、亀、渡り鳥、幅広い種類の植物を保護しています。 なお、ポートスティーブンスの人気の地区は、非公認の首都ネルソン・ベイ（Nelson Bay）、ショール・ベイ（Shoal Bay）、フィンガル・ベイ（Fingal Bay）などです。
